I vow to help you love life, to always hold you with tenderness and to have the patience that love demands, to speak when words are needed and to share the silence when they are not and to live within the warmth of your heart and always call it home.

Scarlett Kay's Birth Story

Scarlett Kay McVay is here!!

This story started bright and early on Wednesday, November 22 at 4 am.  Her Dad and I had our clothes laid out, bags packed and we actually sprang out of bed when our alarms went off that morning!  It was baby day!

Last picture the night before Scarlett was born.  Hardest part by far of this pregnancy was kissing her goodnight on this night knowing this was the last time she'd be our only love.  Mama definitely cried.

We got dressed, made the bed, whispered good bye to Norah and were in the car by 4:45am.  We live within minutes of the hospital, so it was a short drive!  It was about 35 degrees that morning, but I couldn't feel a thing.  I was too excited!  We parked, got lost trying to find L&D and finally checked in for our 5am C/S show time!

Ready to see his second child be born!

Heart tones look great!  We're ready for ya!

The great thing this go around was that I had externed this summer on this floor and really got to know the nursing staff.  My preceptor was awesome enough to switch assignments that morning and take care of us in the OR and during recovery.  She even assisted so that we could do skin to skin in the OR.  Huge shout out to Miriam and Susan!  You all made this day so memorable for us.  At 7am they wheeled me back to start the spinal and get me prepped.

The C/S itself went pretty good.  This time I was extremely nauseas and felt really out of it towards the end.  I feel like a spinal was super heavy compared to the epidural I had last time.  Kit was brought in right before they got Scarlett out and just like before we held our breathes those few moments before to hear that cry that we crave to hear so that we know she's healthy....

And we both lose it every. time.

Her sweet cry brought us to tears just as it had with Norah.  She's here.  Her lungs work.  Hello Scarlett Kay!

6lbs 110z!

Daddy feeling that first squeeze

She was born at 7:42am on November 22, 2017 at 6lbs 11oz and 19 inches long!

Tears!

Recovery went smooth!  In a few hours we were wheeled to a deserted postpartum (cheers for birthing during a holiday week)!  We got settled in, fed the baby and just couldn't stop staring at her.  We were really surprised to see she didn't resemble her sister at all!  Except for that trademark nose from their Daddy.

Latched like a champ

I did it! TWO c-sections DOWN!

Later that day I had my best girl friends from nursing school visit and the grandparents brought up big sister to meet her little sister!  We had a photographer there to capture that moment for us and it was totally worth it.  Moments like that you never get back and just can't seem to replay enough, so we wanted it captured for us.  She really liked the baby, but definitely missed Mama!  The funniest part was when she saw Scarlett breasfeed for the first time she said, "No biting Mama baby!!"  She though the baby was biting me!  So incredibly funny!  We'll never let her live that down.

So happy to be snuggling next to Mama

Happy Thanksgiving!

"No biting Mama!"

Here's a few of our favorite shots from Norah meeting Scarlett for the first time <3

Welcome to our crazy family sweet baby girl!
